SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your adventure begins with an early departure from Arusha, heading southwest toward Tarangire National Park (approx. 2.5 hours by road). Tarangire is famous for its towering baobab trees, rolling savannah, and large elephant herds the highest concentration in northern Tanzania.

Upon entering the park, you’ll embark on a full-day game drive. Your guide will take you through diverse landscapes riverine forests, grassy plains, and acacia woodlands in search of lions, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, buffalo, and more. The Tarangire River acts as a magnet for wildlife, especially during the dry season, and it’s not uncommon to see herds gathering here for a drink.

A picnic lunch will be served at a scenic spot inside the park, giving you a chance to enjoy your meal surrounded by nature.

In the late afternoon, you’ll exit the park and head to your lodge in the Karatu highlands, a lush and peaceful area just outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Often referred to as "Africa’s Garden of Eden," the crater is home to an astonishing density of wildlife including the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard). You'll descend 600 meters into the crater for a half- to full-day game drive across its grasslands, forests, and soda lakes.

Keep your eyes peeled for black rhinos (rare elsewhere but often spotted here), large pride of lions, massive tuskers, hippos basking in pools, and flocks of flamingos around Lake Magadi.

Lunch will be served at a scenic picnic site, often with views over a hippo pool or shaded by acacia trees.

By mid to late afternoon, you'll ascend back to the crater rim and return to Eileen’s Trees Inn to relax, enjoy a warm meal, and perhaps share stories by the fireplace or unwind under the stars.

The park is nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and is famous for its lush groundwater forests, open plains, and the shimmering soda lake that attracts thousands of flamingos and bird species. On your game drive, you may encounter elephants, blue monkeys, zebras, hippos, and with a bit of luck the park’s famous tree-climbing lions.
